Poker Terminology

To play the game you must know how players communicate in the game so you will be able to understand whats going on and also certain phrases that can be useful.

Flop

The so-called "Community cards", consists of only three cards shown to all players, called the flop.

Turn

The fourth card shown to the players after the flop, also known as Fourth street.

River

The fifth and last card shown to the players, called the River or Fifth street.

Suited

Short of the same color.

OS

Off-suite, also tends to be attributed to o. As in A8os, or KJo.

Connector

Cards that are within reach to create a ladder. Eg J-10, 8-7, etc..

Suited connectors

As connectors only to have the same color.

Outs

Cards that are left in the game and needed to make your hand complete.

Nuts

The best hand you can get in a game. Also used in terms such as "Nut flush", "Nut straight" or "Nut trips"

Hand odds

The odds to get the card you want to get your hands full.

AA

The best starting hand in holdem, also known as pocket rockets.two aces.

AK

An ace and a king as the starting hand, also known as "The Big Slick"

Full Boat, Boat

A full house.

Sit 'N Go, SNG

A table-game game where everyone gets the same amount of chips when they buy themselves. Usually played in tournaments and blind levels gradually.

Call the game

A game that is common in the short clubs, you can sit and go when you want, blind increased and you can not buy you again for your money runs out.

Multi-table

On the poker tournaments where several tables played at the same time, and people go all out because, the last to remain gathered at a table.

Satellite

A type of qualifying tournament for the big tournaments, often played on the internet.

Home Game

A game played at home with your friends, here playing really not "real" poker, but it is much bluffing and often all carry to see the last cards.

Position

Place on the table where you sit, in terms of where the dealer is. Left of the dealer button is small blind and then big blind. In early position are usually say that the players the first 4 or 5 sit in. The person who is a dealer sitting on the best position, because when it is his turn, have all invested and he gets a good look over. The first two places after the dealer said to be in late position. All other locations, in a 10-person teams are said to be medium locations. Being able to play in the right position is something that beginners often do not understand and are important for a good player.

Under the Gun, UTG

The player after the big blind is the first to bet and then said to be under the gun.
